When you bring biofilms under control, you deal directly with slime & mold. The water becomes better & easier to balance. You do use less chlorine, bromine or any other sanitizer. Here are the main take aways from this video:
1. Biofilms are the root cause of slime, mold & scale in spas & hot tubs, and contain up to 99% of bacteria found in spas.
2. Biofilms are difficult, if not impossible to directly kill. Biofilms absorb chlorine, bromine, shock treatments; all of which are added to hopefully kill the biofilm.
3. Biguanide products DO NOT cause the mold or slime problem in spas or hot tubs. However, due to their molecular structure, biguanide molecules (Baqua Spa, Soft Soak, Leisure Time Free), readily adhere to and become part of the biofilm.
4. Biofilms are the base of mold & slime. The biofilm colonies form the base on which mold & slime grow.
5. As biofilms break up & are released into the water, they can become aerosolized and mist up causing fumes & odors which may be difficult to inhale, causing breathing problems.
6. When you place your skin in direct contact with biofilms, you can contract skin rashes. Pseudomonas aeruginosa directly contributes & causes a variety of skin & health issues.
