The winter of 2011 - 2012 has been blessing to many of us.
Lower heating costs. Lower, maybe no, costs for snow plowing & removal. Less damage to our homes & property.
All of that was especially good considering the higher & continually rising gas prices, continued high unemployment and other economic concerns.
But with a warm winter and early spring comes some extra care for swimming pools. Although it's been warm since mid March, many of us will still not open our swimming pools until we usually do: mid to late May.
What does all of that mean? Algae growth. And I don't mean simple algae growth, I mean green, murky pools. Why? The reason is pretty simple.

Yup, dog pools...
As holistic animal health becomes more common place for our pets, there are a growing number of "health clubs" for canines.
If you've ever owned a pet, and dogs in particular, you know that they need exercise. This is especially so if your canine companion is older, or dealing health issues such as arthritis. I remember my father in law's golden retriever Tyler. He was a great pet and companion for my in-laws in their later years. But like many goldens, Tyler suffered from arthritis as he got older. If he had a pool available, it probably would have made it easier or more comfortable for him in last years.

They'd summitted great peaks. They'd scuba-dived in some of the world's most dangerous seas. Suspended hot tubbing was clearly the next step.
Thierry Bieler, Jean-Christophe Boillat, Pierre Cauderay, Dominique Weibel and Nicolas Weibel are leaders of the jaccuzzi.ch association, a group of extreme hot tubbers with a long history of pulse-pounding achievement.
So how does a group prepare for such an amazing feat? Lots of practice. The project began with a test run in the backyard. They designed a rotating platform that they hung low to the ground from a strong tree.

A very popular question we get is, "how many hours do I run my pool pump each day?"
Usually, we tell pool owners that between 8 and 12 hours is a good rule of thumb. The next question is "when?"
Many people want to run their pool filter system only at night in order save on electricity during off-peak hours. That's not a bad idea, but it's not the best.
In an ideal world where cost wasn't an issue, running your pool pump 24 hours a day, 7 seven days each week from pool opening to closing, is the best way to care for your pool. Those folks who follow this routine have few if any water quality problems; instead they have a huge electric bill...
But there is a happy medium!
