Hell is not the subject people - even many Christians - want to talk about. Pardon the pun, but speaking of Hell is not a hot topic.
It's "uncomfortable." We don't want to "get in people's faces" about the distinct possibility that they or a loved one may be destined to be sentenced there for eternity. When we Bible believing Christians do speak of Hell, we are often labeled "judgmental," with an almost, "how dare you" attitude attached by the listener.
Like it or not, Hell is something that we Christians do have to talk about. After all, Jesus discussed the topic of Hell more than anybody else. If Jesus acknowledges Hell, then it must exist (even if your liberal priest, minister or Sunday school teacher doesn't believe it or chooses to allegorize it). Jesus didn't mince words on the topic either. It is not a good place; especially considering the length of eternity...
Contrary to popular belief, Hell is not the "hip" partying spot that so many think it will be (that's the concept of extreme hedonism). As Jesus described, Hell is lonely and un-quenching in its torment (see the story of the rich man and Lazarus - Luke 16:19-31). It is often described as a place of "weeping and gnashing of teeth." Gee, just where I want to spend eternity.
